Carr's eight goals helps lift Sage to historic opening day win!

Chicopee, MA---The Sage Colleges women's lacrosse team travelled to Elms College for the 2014 opener. Sophomore midfielder Kimberlee Carr (Colonie, NY/Colonie Central) poured in eight goals and an assist to lift Sage to a 12-9 win over Elms on opening day.  Sage improves to 1-0, while Elms drops to 0-1. The win on Wednesday afternoon marks the first time in the six years of women's lacrosse the Gators have opened the season with a win.

To open the game Carr reeled off four straight goals and helped Sage stand even with the Trailblazer at the break, 5-5. By game's end, Carr had eight goals and eight points. Her eight goals ranks No. 2 all-time in single-game performances, while her eight points is No. 4 at Sage.

Sophomore co-captain Mallory Hansen (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added a goal and two assists, while freshman attacker Alexandria Dodge (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) added two goals, including the go-ahead goal to open the second half.

Rookie goalie Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) made her debut in goal and made six saves on the day in her 60 minutes of work.

The Gators are coming off the program's best season after going 4-11 a year ago. Picked fifth in the race for the 2014 Skyline Conference Championship, the Gators are ready to make some noise this season and play the spoilers as they are led by third-year head coach Pete Stapleton.

Sage returns to action on March 11 hosting Kean University in the team's 2014 home opener that will take place at nearby Renwyck Field on the campus of RPI with a 1 p.m. start.
