Gator of the Year status awarded to Petrovic

Albany, NY—Russell Sage College's department of athletics announced their award winners for the 2021-2022 academic year at the annual awards banquet.  In addition to several honors bestowed for athletic and academic excellence, Sage also selected the Gator of the Year Award for the department's 21 varsity sports for the 2021-2022 year.

The Department also announced the 59 honorees for the Athletic Honor Society. Russell Sage College's Intercollegiate Athletic Honor Society recognizes junior, senior, or graduate level student-athletes, who have maintained a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.3 or better and have participated as a member of a varsity team for at least two seasons.

RSC's senior women's golfer Alexa Petrovic (Winslow, ME/Winslow) was honored as the Gator of the Year in women's golf and for her academic prowess as well.

Head Women's Golf Coach Kevin Cain remarked "Alexa is always working to improve her game." He added, "Alexa approached every practice, match and tournament with a positive mindset. Her attitude and persistence make her a very special student-athlete."

A member of the inaugural women's golf team at Sage, our Gator of the Year had a banner "rookie" season. She posted a pair of second place finishes at Fall Tournaments hosted by SUNY-Cobleskill and RSC. This spring she competed at the 2022 Northeast Women's Golf Championship. She finished in a tie for 17th place as she finished with a two-day total of 197. She shot an opening round score of 99 to stand in a tie for 20th place and posted a 98 on the second day of the championship.

Academically, she also excelled in the classroom and was named to the Sage Athletic Honor Society as well.
