Hilton, NY--RSC's women's basketball player, rookie guard Layla Acosta (Haines City, FL/Haines City) was honored on Monday as the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week. Acosta averaged 13.0 ppg for the week with 3.5 rpg as well, while shooting an impressive 50.0% from three-point range in a pair of games for the Gators.

Against Elmira, Acosta established a career-high with 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting in the road setback.  The rookie topped all players with 12 first-half points to send the Gators into the locker room knotted at 38. The seven three-point baskets in the contest ranks in a tie for the second-most three's in a game at RSC.

On the season, Acosta has started 7 of 11 games played and now has a 6.8 ppg average to go with her 3.4 rpg average. She has 15 three-pointers and has handed out 19 assists with 15 steals.

The Gators will take to the hardwood three times this coming week hosting Hartwick, Medaille and Houghton in Empire 8 play. January 10, 13 and 14 respectively.
