Gators Pick Up First Road Win of the Season

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Russell Sage College kept SUNY Cobleskill scoreless for the final 2:33 of this evening's 73-70 road win.

The Gators (4-1), which only allowed four points during the final 5:57 to secure the non-conference triumph, had three players record double figures.

Sophomore guard Syrita Faraj (Troy, NY/Tamarac) topped all players with 29 points on 12-of-21 shooting. The reigning Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year grabbed 19 rebounds, a career-high, for her second double-double of the season.

Forward Giuliana Pritchard (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam/Hartwick), a graduate student, contributed 15 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while junior forward Bre Lott (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) added 11 points.

After RSC used a 27-10 run across 10:08 to go into the locker room up 44-36, SUNY Cobleskill (3-4) trimmed its deficit in the third quarter. The final period featured four deadlocks in the final period, including at 70 with 2:33 remaining.

Sophomore guard Lauren Sanderson (Ravena, NY/RCS) provided the final points of the contest, knocking down a trey with 2:17 left. The teams both went scoreless from there, including on an airballed Fighting Tiger corner three-point attempt at the buzzer. The shot was part of a closing stretch where the hosts were 1-for-7 from the field during the last 4:45. 

Sophomore guard Taylor Meacham (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) paced SUNY Cobleskill with 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting.

Looking ahead, RSC opens E8 Conference play on Friday at 5:30 pm vs. Utica. The contest will serve as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.


Notes: The Gators are coming off a semifinal appearance in the E8 Conference Championship Tournament…11 players returned from the team…Sophomore guard Syrita Faraj (Troy, NY/Tamarac) and senior guard Sammy Pasinella (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) highlight the group…Faraj was voted the 2021-22 E8 Rookie of the Year, while Pasinella, a two-time All-Conference selection, opened the season ranked sixth in program records with 120 career made three-pointers…Head coach Allison Coleman began her ninth season at the helm with an overall record of 119-74.
