Maddie Greco honored as women's basketball Gator of the Year

Albany, NY—Russell Sage College's department of athletics announced their award winners for the 2021-2022 academic year at the annual awards banquet.  In addition to several honors bestowed for athletic and academic excellence, Sage also selected the Gator of the Year Award for the department's 21 varsity sports for the 2021-2022 year.

RSC's senior guard Madison Greco (Utica, NY/West Canada Valley) was honored as the Gator of the Year for Women's Basketball.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Allison Coleman noted, "Maddie has overcome injury adversity during her time at Sage and with the Women's Basketball Program." She added, "She is as selfless as it comes to making sure her team is in their best position to be successful.  Maddie pushed her body to the limits in order to make sure she was ready for any challenge that came her way.  She is the best teammate this team could have asked for."

Greco worked hard on the court and off this past season and helped the team advance to the semifinals of the 2021-2022 Empire 8 Women's Basketball Championship. She played in 12 games with one start and helped lead the team to the playoffs. An excellent performer in the classroom, she also earned acclaim as a member of the Empire 8 Presidents' List as well as Sage's Athletic Honor Society and the Sage Scholar-Athlete Team.
