Gators deliver key E8 victory on Senior Day, beating Alfred 59-52

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College's women's basketball squad concluded the home portion of its regular season schedule with this afternoon's 59-52 Empire 8 win vs. Alfred. RSC improves to 11-12 overall and 7-7 in the Empire 8. The loss puts the Saxons at 11-12 and 6-8 overall. The victory helps the Gators as they look to make a post-season push in the upcoming Empire 8 Tournament.

The Gators held a 34-29 lead at the half and had two players finish in double-digits in the contest. (10-12/6-7 E8)

Senior forward Kyra Oeffler (Green Island, NY/Heatly), one of three Gators that were recognized in the pre-game "Senior Day" ceremony, exploded on senior day for a season-best 20 points as she hit 8-of-15 shots from the floor with four steals.

Freshman guard Syrita Faraj (Troy, NY/Tamarac) had a double-double with her 15 points and game-best 13 rebounds. The double-double is the eights of the year and also marks the 15th time she has netted double-digits scoring this season.

Senior guard Meghan Murray (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet), another of the three Gators that were recognized in the pre-game "Senior Day" ceremony, tallied six points with seven rebounds and a pair of steals. 

Senior guard Sammy Pasinella (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) tallied four points with three assists and a pair of steals in the contest. Junior guard Renna Poulin (Troy, NY/Tamarac) chipped in with eight rebounds with four points and a pair of assists.

The Saxons had eight different players score in the contest, while Gillian Flint led the way with nine points and had seven rebounds in the action.  Both Allison O'Toole and Ana Ion finished with eight points apiece, while being held to just 16.0% shooting from three-point range (4-25).

On her RSC career, Pasinella, who is a current CoSIDA Academic All-America nominee, now has 749 career points which puts her at 16th on the all-time scoring list at RSC. She also ranks sixth with her 113 career three-point baskets, while her 178 career assists is 15th as well now having played in 72 games as well.

Oeffler stands 10th in career blocks, as she now has 41, while has now played in 73 career games and ranks 28th all-time in appearances. Murray ranks 18th with her 24 career blocks, while having also played in 50 games as a Gator.

Looking ahead, RSC plays next on Friday at Keuka at 5:30 p.m.

Senior Day: Before today's game, the department recognized three players: senior guard Madison Greco (Utica, NY/West Canada Valley), senior guard Meghan Murray (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet), and senior forward Kyra Oeffler (Green Island, NY/Heatly), for their contributions to the program.
