Balanced effort leads Gators past Keuka, 68-55

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College women's basketball team overcame a slow start against the Wolves of Keuka College on Friday night in Robison Gym at the Kahl Campus Center as they triumphed, 68-55. With the win, the Gators improve to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the league. Keuka falls to 1-12 overall and 0-5 in the Empire 8. The Gators have now won three of their last four games.

Sophomore Bre Lott (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) led RSC with 13 points off the bench including a 9-for-10 effort from the free throw line. She paced the Gators with nine second half points and finished with five rebounds as well as the team held a commanding edge on the boards, 49-37.

All told, the Gators had an impressive showing at the line as they were 18-of-22.  Senior guard Meghan Murray (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet) was 7-for-7 from the line with a double-double as she had 11 points with a game-best and career-best 15 rebounds.

Freshman guard Syrita Faraj (Troy, NY/Tamarac) also connected for the double-double with 10 points and 11 boards marking her sixth career double-double.  Senior guard Sammy Pasinella (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) racked up eight points with a pair of three-point baskets to go with her two assists and a blocked shot. Senior forward Kyra Oeffler (Green Island, NY/Heatly) finished with 12 points after she made 6-of-11 from the floor with six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

For the Wolves, junior guard Lauren Hill (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) led all scorers in the game with 18 points off the bench. She added eight rebounds with two steals and an assist, while senior guard Amelia Poole (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) had 12 points with four assists. Sophomore guard Sydney Brown (Lowville, NY/Lowville Academy) had 11 points with eight rebounds and led Keuka with three baskets from three-point range.

Pasinella now has 681 career points including 99 three-point baskets, moving her into the No. 8 spot on the career list. She also boasts 158 career assists is 15th as well now.

Looking ahead, RSC is scheduled to host Elmira College in an Empire 8 contest on January 22 at 2:00 p.m. in Robison Gym in the Kahl Campus Center.


Notes: Freshman guard Lauren Sanderson (Ravena, NY/RCS) was named the E8 Rookie of the Week on Monday…She averaged 13.5 points on 42.9 percent shooting in the 2-0 week…Sanderson, who has tallied double figures in four-straight contests, established a career-high of 17 points on January 15 at Houghton…Eight returnees plus six newcomers comprise this year's roster...Pasinella, who was named first-team All-Conference last season, Oeffler, and Murray headline the group of returnees...Pasinella equaled a program record with eight made three-pointers on Tuesday vs. Utica…Head Coach Allison Coleman, now in her eighth season, began the campaign with a 106-60 (.639) overall record.
