Women's basketball falls in final contest of December; Gators stumble to Red Dragons

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College concluded 2021 by falling to visiting SUNY Oneonta 80-42 this afternoon at Robison Gym at the Kahl Campus Center. The loss puts the Gators at 4-5, while Oneonta State stands at 5-5. The Red Dragons led 37-24 at the half in earning the road win.

Sophomore guard Molly Stephens (LaGrange, NY/Arlington) topped all performers with 23 points. She made 9-of-13 shots from the floor with four three point baskets. Rookie forward Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) added 12 points with six rebounds for Oneonta State.

For the Gators, junior guard Renna Poulin (Troy, NY/Tamarac) led the way with 11 points. She connected for three baskets from downtown, while adding five rebounds with three assists.  Freshman guard Syrita Faraj (Troy, NY/Tamarac) added nine points with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals as well in the contest.

Senior forward Kyra Oeffler (Green Island, NY/Heatly) collected six points with five boards for RSC while sophomore forward Bre Lott (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) also scored six points.

This afternoon capped the non-conference portion of this year's schedule. The Gators open Empire 8 Conference play on January 4 at Hartwick. The contest is slated to begin at 5:30 pm.


Notes: Nine returnees plus six newcomers comprise this year's roster...Senior guard Sammy Pasinella (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville), who was named first-team All-E8 last season, headlines the group of returnees...Head Coach Allison Coleman, now in her eighth season, began the campaign with a 106-60 (.639) overall record.
