Murray and Faraj pace Gators to win on Sunday with career performances

BOSTON–  Russell Sage College defeated Salve Regina in this afternoon's Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament Consolation Game, 83-72. With the win, the Gators are now 2-1 this year, while Salve Regina drops to 1-2.

The Gators led 45-34 at the half and posted the win as three players finished in double-digit scoring in the action.

The game was tied at 12-12 with 4:51 left in the first quarter before sophomore forward Bre Lott (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) made a free throw to give the Gators a 13-12 lead and the team never looked back.

Freshman guard Syrita Faraj (Troy, NY/Tamarac) exploded for a career high 25 points while adding 11 rebounds as well for her second straight double-digit scoring effort. She made 9-of-14 shots from the floor, while adding three assists and a steal. She was rewarded for her play on the weekend with a spot on the Emmanuel  College All-Tournament Team.

Senior guard Meghan Murray (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet) had a career-high 22 points after shooting 50.0% from the floor (8-16) and made 3-of-5 shots from three-point range with five assists, a blocked shot and two steals.

Sophomore forward Savannah Sommer (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy) also had a big afternoon as she had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs. Sommer has now finished in double-digit scoring in all three games on her sophomore season.

Looking ahead, the Gators play at Skidmore at 5:30 pm on Wednesday evening, November 17.
