Bowman and Flynn pace Gators as they beat Elmira, 67-51

FLYNN AND BOWMAN SCORE 20 POINTS EACH AS SAGE TOPS ELMIRA, 67-51 IN E8 PLAY AS GATORS ARE NOW 3-0 IN THE LEAGUE

Albany, NY–Sage's women's basketball team picked up their third straight Empire 8 road win in as many games this week as they hosted Elmira College on Saturday afternoon. The Gators posted a 67-51 win to improve 7-7 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8. Elmira drops to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Sage got 20 points from graduate player Kaitlyn Bowman (Chateaugay, NY/Saranac) and senior Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) to lead the Gators. Sage led 32-28 at the half and never trailed the 2:45 minute mark of the first quarter and led by as many as 18 points at the 1:23 mark of the fourth (67-49). Bowman added 10 points with seven rebounds in the first half and wrapped the game with her 12th career double-double as she hauled in 17 rebounds for the game with five assists. Flynn added four rebounds with a 7-11 effort from the floor, while Bowman hit 7-of-10 from the floor in the game.

Sophomore forward Kyra Oeffler (Green Island, NY/Heatly) picked up seven points with five rebounds off the bench with a steal for the Gators. Sage's senior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) added six points with six rebounds and made 2-of-4 shots from three-point range in the contest.

Elmira got 13 points and eight boards from senior Lauren Franklin (Binghamton, NY/Holy Cross), while rookie guard Mykenzie Malacusky (Dushore, PA/Sullivan County) added 11 points for the Soaring Eagles.

Sage's Bowman continues to edge closer to her 1,000th career point as she is now 11th on the scoring list with 867 having moved ahead of Wendy Kohn (666, 1988-1992). Bowman also has tallied 695 career rebounds, which is fourth. She has also now handed out 244 assists ranking eighth behind her older sister, Megan Bowman. Megan Bowman holds the career assist mark with 458 during her career that spanned from 2011-2015. Kaitlyn Bowman has also now played in 96 games at Sage with 93 starts and is now seventh having moved ahead of her older sister in career games played.  

Flynn now has 690 career points with 547 rebounds and is in the No. 7 spot in rebounding and now 19th in scoring. She has played in 73 games, which is 26th. Patregani has connected for 627 points and now has 138 career three's, good enough for fourth on the program's career list.

Sage will be in action on January 17 hosting Nazareth College in a 7:30 p.m. Empire 8 contest in Kahl Gym.
