Sage women's hoops drops contest to RPI, 76-67

SAGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – RPI 76, Sage 67

Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted the Engineers of RPI on Tuesday night in a non-conference game in Kahl Gym. Senior guard Sam Krumbhaar (Glen Burnie, MD/North County) scored a game high 25 points to lead the Engineers to a 76-67 victory over the Gators. RPI is now 4-1 on the young season while Sage falls to 2-4.

Senior guard Ines Ortea (Madrid, Spain/Fillmore Central) scored 19 points for the guests while junior guard Courtney Lewis (Port Jefferson, NY/Port Jefferson) added 17. Lewis made all six of her free throw attempts. Krumbhaar had a game high six assists for RPI, which shot 42% for the night and forced 25 turnovers. RPI also had a 39-34 rebounding advantage. Senior forward Celia Tomlinson (South Kingston, NY/South Kingston) led all players with 15 rebounds, nine on the defensive end.

Sage also had three players in double figures. Sophomore guard Sammy Palsinella (Troy, NY/Mechanicville) led the way with 12 points while Sage got 11 points from junior Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) and 10 points from senior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh). Senior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) had a team high 13 rebounds, eight on the offensive boards. The Gators forced 23 turnovers and shot 43% for the game.

Senior guard/forward Kaitlyn Bowman (Chateaugay, NY/Saranac) now has 746 career points, moving into 13th on the Gators' all-time scoring list past Kristen Marcinczyk (1992-1995) who had 744. Bowman is currently fifth all-time in career rebounding with 617 rebounds, while ranking ninth in free throws made (170) and 13th in career games played with 88.  Flynn now has 575 career points, while adding 452 career rebounds, moving into ninth all-time in Sage career rebounding annals. RPI led 47-37 at halftime.

Sage is back in action on December 3 travelling to Middlebury College for a 7 p.m. non-conference game next week. RPI is back in action on December 2 hosting Smith College at 6 p.m. in the EVAC.
