Stannard earns multiple awards for athletic and academic excellence to cap her career

Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2018-2019 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 17 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2018-2019 Female and Male Rookies of the Year as well as the 2018-2019 Female and Male Athletes of the Year, as well as the 2018-2019 Female and Male Athletes of the Year. Sage also selected the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, as well as the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

Sage honored senior women's basketball guard Danielle Stannard (Valley Falls, NY/Hoosic Valley Central) as the both the Gator of the Year in women's basketball, but also as the 2018-2019 Dean Sharon Robinson Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. As a member of the basketball team, Stannard was a consistent presence for the Gators throughout her career as she finished it in style with a career-high seven points and six assists in her final appearance on the hardwood. An accomplished scholar-athlete as well, she was a four-time Empire 8 Presidents' List honoree and was also honored with induction into the Sage Athletic Honor Society at the banquet.

Head women's basketball coach Allison Coleman commented about Stannard, "Danielle has been an unsung hero of the Sage Women's Basketball program since her arrival on campus." Coleman stated, "The thing that stands out most about Danielle is her complete selflessness and willingness to sacrifice her own personal glory for the greater good of the program. Danielle is a highly motivated, goal-oriented individual whose contributions to the women's basketball team over the past 3 years will be a tough void to fill."

Stannard wrapped the day with her third recognition having been saluted as the 2018-2019 Dean Sharon Robinson Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A business administration major at Sage, she achieved a stellar 3.954 grade-point-average, while also graduating from Sage in just three years. A multiple Dean's List honoree, she was also honored for academic excellence throughout her career as a Sage Scholar-Athlete and a Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete as well during her freshman season.
