Gators fall to Stevens on Senior Night

Albany, NY— Jess Broad scored a team high 14 points with a team best seven rebounds and Anna Toke added 10   to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology to a 65-51 victory over The Sage Colleges on Thursday night in Kahl Gym in and Empire 8 match-up.  Stevens improved to 17-7 and 12-3 in Empire 8. Sage is now 12-12 for the season and 7-7 in the Empire 8.

Emily Nunez scored nine points for the Ducks, who got eight points each from Allie Moss and Maddi Hahn. Broad and Meghan Douglas dished out four assists each for Stevens, which shot 52% for the game and forced 23 turnovers.

Junior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) was the high-scorer for Sage and the game with 17 points, making six of nine shots from the floor. Senior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) scored 15 points and sophomore forward Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) pulled down a game high eight rebounds. Sage and Stevens had 31 rebounds each, and the Gators shot 36% for the game.

In the first quarter, the Gators had a 9-7 lead with 4:52 left in the period. But the Ducks went on a 10-0 run to finish the half, led by six straight points by Winter and it was 17-9 Stevens after one. In the second quarter, a Hahn layup made it a 19-9 lead 16 seconds into the period. Parslow hit two straight threes and a Flynn layup made it a two point game (19-17) to complete the 8-0 home run. But over the final 6:33 of the first half, the Ducks went on a 16-2 run to produce the 35-19 lead at halftime.

Sage was within 12 after a Bush layup with 7:54 left in the third. But six points each by Broad and Nunez led an 18-0 run for the visitors, who later led 54-30 after three. Sage almost doubled up the Ducks in the fourth quarter, 21-11, to produce the 65-51 final.

Junior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) is fifth all-time with her 107 career three-point baskets. Senior guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) added five points after making her 106th career appearance which stands second all-time at Sage and is tied with Gen Schoff for the honor. Holmes has 726 career points and is 14th on the Gator career scoring list, while standing third with her 156 career three-pointers. Parslow, who is Sage's all-time three-point leader now has 251 and broke the single-season three-point record as well this month as she has 81 this year. Parslow stands third all-time in scoring with her 1,352 points.

Prior to the contest, Sage honored their 2018-2019 seniors in conjunction with Senior Night. They included Emily Parlsow, Macie Holmes, Lauren Cross (Moriah Center, NY/Moriah Central), and Danielle Stannard (Valley Falls, NY/Hoosic Valley Central). This foursome have helped the Gators to a league regular-season crown as rookies, a conference championship and an NCAA bid as sophomores, while earning a spot in the 2017-2018 Empire tournament in their first year in the new conference, while combining for over 2,200 points while combining for a (71-34) record during their time in a Sage uniform.

Sage is back in action Monday, February 18 hosting Hartwick College in a 5:30 p.m. Empire 8 contest. Stevens returns to action on Saturday, February 16 hosting Hartwick College in a 2 p.m. Empire contest in Hoboken, NJ.
