Sage holds off Houghton, 60-57 led by Parslow, Patregnani

Houghton, NY— Senior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) scored 27 points to lead The Sage Colleges to a 60-57 Empire 8 women's basketball win over Houghton College at the Nielsen Center Friday night. The Gators evened their season record to 11-11 and also are even in the league at 6-6. The Highlanders fell to 11-10 overall and 4-8 in the Empire 8.

Parslow added six rebounds, three steals and two assists. It was the 17th game this season that Parslow scored in double figures, and 65th in her illustrious career. Junior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) had nine points while junior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) scored eight points. Sophomore forward Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) scored seven points for the Gators, who shot 33% on the night and joined the hosts with 40 boards. Rookie Giuliana Pritchard (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) hauled in a a team-best 13 boards in the action.

Parslow now has 1,312 career points and became the third player in program history to record 1,300 or more points. She ranks behind career leader Jocelyn Naple '98 (1,412) and former teammate Gen Schoff '18 (1,394). Senior guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) had five points and became the 18th player to score 700 or more career points (now at 707).

Brittany Lenart led the Highlanders with 16 points and Emily Swanson had 10 rebounds with a game high five blocked shots. Madison Detwiler added 14 points off the bench for Houghton, which shot 38% for the game.

Sage had an 18-10 lead after the first quarter but a 25-point second stanza led the Highlanders to a 35-32 halftime advantage. Sage scored 18 again in the third quarter for a 50-49 lead into the fourth. The final period was a defensive show, with both teams combining for just 18 points (10 by Sage). A Detwiler layup with 6:01 left made it a three-point lead at 53-30 for Houghton, and the hosts led by four at 57-53 with just 1:41 left in the period. But a Parslow jumper and two free throws by Patregnani tied it at 57-57 with 1:07 to play. Parslow made the first of two from the charity stripe with 18 seconds left for a 58-57 lead, and the Gators got the offensive rebound to get the ball back. After a Houghton foul, Parslow made two more at the line with nine seconds left for the 60-57 final.

The Gators will play Saturday at Alfred at 2 p.m. while Houghton hosts Stevens at 2 p.m. Saturday.
