Flynn leads another comeback win, 66-61 over Houghton

Albany, NY— Junior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead The Sage Colleges to a 66-61 Empire 8 win over Houghton College Saturday afternoon at Kahl Gym. The Gators posted their second comeback victory in two days, and improved to 9-7 overall and 4-3 in the league. The Highlanders fell to 9-7 overall and 2-5 in the Empire 8.

Flynn scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half. She had nine of her boards on the defensive side. Senior guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) scored 16 points and made all six of her free throws, and freshman forward Giuliana Pritchard (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) had a game best 12 rebounds with nine points and a career high four steals as well as a personal best and game high four blocks. Senior forward Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) scored 11 points and Sage shot 35% for the game, 54% in the second half. The Gators forced 24 turnovers.

Houghton was led by Emily Swanson's 20 points, while Amber Edwards had 12 and Hannah Haskell added 10. Edwards had a team best eight rebounds. Houghton outrebounded the hosts, 46-37 and the Highlanders shot 39% for the day.

The teams played excellent defense early as the score was 9-8 Houghton after the first quarter. With 3:13 remaining in the period, Parslow made two free throws. The second moved her into sole possession of third place in Sage career scoring, with 1,200 points, passing Mary Leary '83. Nexc up is Gen Schoff '18 with 1,394. In the second quarter, Sage had a one point lead at 11-10 with 9:21 left. But the Highlanders went on a 16-6 run for a 26-17 lead with 40 seconds left, and had a 26-19 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Houghton led by 12 with 5:50 left. But the Gators went on an 18-2 run over the next 4:58 led by five points by Flynn. Sage led 41-39 after three. In the fourth, trailing by three at 6:55, Flynn's nine points led a 19-9 run over the next 5:38 for a 63-54 lead.

Sage is back in action Friday, January 25 for an Empire 8 game at Elmira at 4:30 p.m. Houghton hosts Elmira in league play at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22.
