Pritchard leads 87-73 home win over Alfred

Albany, NY— Freshman forward Giuliana Pritchard (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) scored a career and game high 21 points with nine rebounds to lead The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team to an 87-73 victory over Alfred University Friday afternoon in an Empire 8 contest in Kahl Gym. Sage improved to 8-7, 3-3 in the Empire 8 while Alfred fell to 5-9, 1-4.

Freshman forward Kyra Oeffler (Green Island, NY/Heatly) scored a career best 15 points off the bench and also had a career best seven rebounds. Senior forward Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) added 19 points and senior guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) scored 12. The Gators shot 56% for the game and outrebounded the Saxons, 42-34. Junior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) had four steals for the Gators. Parslow now has 1,198 points, needing just one to move into third all-time in Sage scoring. Lyndsey McCoy and Amanda Figueroa scored 13 points each for Alfred, while Jamie Wilcox led the guests with six rebounds. Alfred shot 36%.

After a 5-4 lead by Alfred with 3:24 gone in the first quarter, the Gators got hot and went on a 17-2 run in 6:24 for a 21-7 lead. Parsow had five points during that surge. Sage led 23-14 after the first quarter. The Sage lead was nine with 4:32 left in the second quarter at 33-24, then went on a run of 11-3 in a span of 3:32 for a 44-27 lead. Oeffler scored four during that span. It was 44-29 Sage at halftime. Prichard had 12 points at halftime and the Gators were shooting 55% after the first 20 minutes. Sage led by 17 twice in the third period, including with 6:28 remaining at 52-35, and had a 68-55 lead after three quarters. In the fourth, the Gators had two 18 point leads, including 86-68 with just 47 seconds left.

Sage is back in action on Saturday, January 19 hosting Houghton in an Empire 8 contest now scheduled at Noon. Alfred plays Saturday at Stevens in a Noon Empire 8 matchup on the road.
