
Albany, NY – Junior forward Maya Davis had a double-double with 13 points and a game high 10 rebounds and senior guard Colleen Caveney scored a game high 19 points to lead undefeated Middlebury College to a 63-44 non-league women's basketball win over The Sage Colleges at Kahn Gym Thursday night.
The Panthers are now 5-0 on the season while the Gators are 2-2.
Caveney and Ivy Houde led all players with five steals each and Catherine Harrison scored nine points with five rebounds. Middlebury forced 29 turnovers and shot 81% from the line (13 for 16), 43% from the floor.
Sage was led by sophomore forward Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central), who had 10 points , and junior forward Meghan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central), who pulled down eight rebounds. Flynn also had three steals. Junior forward Tamisha Edge (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) dished out three assists for the Gators. The Gators forced 21 Panther turnovers and out-rebounded Middlebury, 40-33.
Sage had a 15-14 lead after the first quarter but the Panthers outscored the Gators, 13-9 to take a 27-24 lead into the half. Davis hit a layup with 7:30 left in the half for a 16-15 lead, and Sage never regained the lead. Bush had a layup for Sage with 7:12 left in the third quarter to make it 31-28 Middlebury, but the Panthers then went on a 15-1 run over the next 6:07 for a 46-29 advantage with 1:05 left. That was the score after three quarters. Middlebury led by as many as 26 in the second half (63-37 with 3:33 to play) but Sage scored the final seven points of the contest.
Prior to the contest, Sage senior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) was presented with the game ball for her 1,000th career point accomplished last Tuesday at RPI.
The Gators next play on Saturday, December 1 at Kahl Gym to host DeSales University at 2 p.m. Middlebury hosts Colby-Sawyer Saturday at 1 p.m.
