Sage women's hoop team takes Cardinal Classic; Flynn earns MVP and Parslow All-Tournament Team

Plattsburgh, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team captured the championship title on Saturday evening in the 2018 Plattsburgh State Cardinal Tournament after beating the tournament hosts, Plattsburgh State, 78-64 in the finals. With the win, Sage is now 2-0 and the Cardinals drop to 1-1.

Junior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) poured in a career-high 22 points and was selected as the Tournament MVP, while senior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) was also selected to the all-tournament team for her play.

Flynn led Sage to the win after the Gators held a 31-28 lead at the break. The Cardinals held a brief lead in the third quarter, 47-46, but Sage used a strong fourth quarter adding 30 points to win the match-up.

Flynn hit 8-of-14 shots from the floor and had a double-double with her 12 rebounds. She bettered her 18 points effort she matches twice a year ago in pacing the Gators. Parlsow finished strong in the game and added 15 points for the day, putting her at 995 career points, just five points shy of her 1,000th career point. She is the seventh all-time leading scorer in Sage women's basketball history. She added four three-point baskets in the contest with Plattsburgh State, giving her 177 career three-point baskets which is second only to the 200 scored by Frankie Pearson (2013-2017).

Junior forward Tanisha Edge (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) scored 13 points, while senior guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) finished with 10 points.

The Gators shot 50.0% from beyond the arch making 10-of-20 three point attempts and held the Cardinals to 38.9% from downtown (7-18) and had a 36-27 edge on the boards. Plattsburgh State's Taylor Durnin had 20 points in the loss and was joined in double-digit scoring by Lyrell Walker who finished with 13 points.

The Gators will face non-league opponent RPI next on November 20 at the ECAV at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night.
