Sage opens women's hoop season with 78-69 win over Rowan

Plattsburgh, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team outscored Rowan University, 28-9 in the third quarter in route to a 78-69 season opening win over the Profs at the Plattsburgh State Cardinal Tournament Friday night at Memorial Hall Gymnasium.

Sage will face host Plattsburgh in the tournament Championship Game Saturday at 3 p.m. Rowan will play New England College at 1 p.m. in the Consolation.

Senior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) led the Gators with 17 points. Sophomore forward Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) had a double-double with 15 points and a game high 10 rebounds. The rebound total tied her career high, which she had accomplished twice previously. Bush also made all seven of her free throw attempts. Junior forward Tamisha Edge (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) scored 12 points and had a game best eight assists and freshman forward Emily Pike (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) scored 11 with eight boards. Sage shot 82% from the line (14-17) and led for over 30 minutes in the game while having a 40-36 rebounding advantage.

Dominique Peters led the Profs with 19 points and also had six rebounds. Olivia Rulon scored 18 and Ayanna Johnson scored 12 for Rowan, which shot 40%.

Sage led 21-19 after the first quarter but Rowan had a 40-35 lead at the half. But the Gators exploded to start the quarter and outscored Rowan, 22-2 in the first 7:28 of the third. The Profs got as close as eight but with 59 seconds remaining in the final period and again with only 16 seconds left to play in the fourth.
