Schoff Honored as Sage's 2017-2018 Co-Female Athlete of the Year

Albany, NY—The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2017-2018 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2017-2018 Female and Male Athletes of the Year as well as the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, as well as the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

Sage's senior women's basketball player Genevieve Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) and senior softball player Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) shared Female Athlete of the Year honors. She was also named for the second straight year to the Sage Athletic Honor Society for her accomplishments in the classroom.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Allison Coleman commented about Schoff, "Gen came to our program with a lot of talent but no one could have predicted the incredible career had for the past four years." Coleman added, "She was a relentless competitor, who would put her body on the line to put her team in a position to win every time she stepped on the floor. Gen was able to compete against any player, on both ends of the floor and never shied away from a challenge. Being named as Female Athlete of the Year is the perfect ending to define what she has meant to this program. We are a better program today because of the hard work and sacrifices she made at Sage."

Schoff led the 2017-2018 women's basketball team to an appearance in the Empire 8 Women's Basketball Tournament after a strong 12-4 showing in the league. The Gators finished second in the race for the league regular-season title and went 18-8 overall with a 12-4 mark in Empire 8 play. The 18 wins this season is tied for the third most in school history with the 2014-2015 team, which also went 18-8 under the guidance of Coleman in her first season at Sage.

Schoff, who earned Empire 8 Player of the Week honors after a banner week that included setting an Empire 8 single-game free throw record with 18 made free throws, is the team's second leading scorer this season. Over the course of her career, Schoff recorded 33 career double-doubles after closing her career with 20 points and 14 rebounds in the Empire 8 semifinals against eventual champion, Stevens. Schoff wraps her amazing career as a four-year starter and all-star having just earned Empire 8 First Team honors on Thursday as the second all-time leading scorer.  She is Sage's No. 2 all-time player in points (1,394), rebounds (871), blocks (128) and game played (106) and finished with a 13.2 ppg average on her career which is No. 4 all-time, while falling just 19 points shy of breaking Sage's career scoring mark which stands at 1,412 points and is held by Jocelyn Naple (1994-1998). Schoff is also the all-time free throw leader at Sage having made 405 of 544 attempts for a .744 free throw percentage which is sixth best as well.

She was named to the 2017-2018 Empire 8 All-Star Women's Basketball First Team and became the first Sage female student-athlete to garner a First Team citation.
