Late-game rally gives Sage key E8 win over Hartwick, 72-67

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted Hartwick College on Tuesday night in an Empire 8 contest. After trailing for most of the game, Sage had a late-game rally to beat the Hawks, 72-67 and earn their 18th win of the season. Sage stands at 18-6 overall and 12-3 in the Empire 8, while Hartwick drops to 6-17 overall and 5-9 in the league. Sage's 18 wins this season is tied for the third most in school history with the 2014-2015 team which went 18-8 under the guidance of Head Coach Allison Coleman in her first season at Sage.

Hartwick lead 38-34 at the half and 59-50 at the end of the third quarter. Sage took their first lead of the second half at 3:19 as junior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) hit a three-pointer to knot the game at 65-65. Sophomore forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added a layup at 1:58 to give Sage a 67-65 lead. Hartwick's junior guard Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) hit two free throws at 1:10 to tie the game for the seventh time. Flynn answered with a layup at 0:43 for Sage and senior Gen Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) hit one of two free throws giving Sage a three-point lead with 0:21 left to play. Johnson missed a layup at 0:14 and fouled Parlsow sending her to the line with 0:12 left and she hit the pair to give Sage the five point win.

For the game, Johnson led all players with her 29 points and made 5-of-7 from three-point range with eight rebounds and two steals. Sage's Parlsow added 23 points to lead the gators and made 5-of-9 from three point range.

For Hartwick, rookie Mary Schoenherr (Unionville, CT/Farmington) added 12 points before fouling out in the final minute. Joining her in double-digit scoring was freshman forward Kelly Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) with 11 and junior guard Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) netted 10 points with seven rebounds and four assists.

Sage's Flynn added 18 points with seven rebounds, while junior guard Kaitlyn Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) added 11 points and six rebounds. Returning to the lineup, Schoff finished with a double-double off the bench hauling in 10 rebounds with 12 points.

Schoff, now has 1,358 career points to rank second all-time at Sage, just 55 points shy of breaking Sage's career scoring mark. Already Sage's career free throw leader, she now has 391 made free throws to go with her 851 rebounds, also second all-time at Sage. She is also second in blocked shots with 124 and played in 104 games, which is second best at Sage as well. With her double-double on Tuesday, she 71 career double-digit scoring performances with 31 double-doubles.

Parlsow has added 948 career points putting her in the No. 7 spot as she moved past Karen Harris (940, 1991-1995). She also has 168 career three-pointers and ranks second, while adding 281 assists which is fourth on the Sage list. Bowman has 695 career points with 563 career rebounds which stands sixth best on the career list.

Sage is back in action on February 17 hosting St. John Fisher College in a 4 p.m. home Empire 8 contest in conjunction with Senior Day. Sage will honor seniors Gen Schoff and Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) in conjunction with a pre-game ceremony Saturday.

Hartwick is back in action on February 16 hosting Houghton College in an Empire 8 contest at 8 p.m. on Friday night.
