Highlanders top Sage 60-52 for first Gator loss in E8

Houghton, NY- Sage's women's basketball team made a road trip to face the Highlanders of Houghton College on Saturday afternoon. The Highlanders posted a 60-52 win over Sage to snap the Gators' seven-game win streak and hand the team their first Empire 8 conference loss. Houghton improves to 10-7 overall and 6-2 in the league, while Sage drops to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Houghton had a 28-23 lead at the half and led by as many as 12 points in the final quarter, 56-44 with 2:08 left to play before junior guard Macie Holmes (Amersterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) sunk a three-pointer and layup to cut Houghton's lead to just 6 with 1:02 left to play (56-60). Junior guard Kaitlyn Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) hit a pair of free throws at 0:46 to cut the lead to just five points, but the Gators could not get any closer down the stretch.

Senior forward Genevieve Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) as she collected 20 points and 15 rebounds for an impressive effort. She added five blocked shots and hit 7-15 from the floor as well as missing just one free throw (6-7) for Sage in the action. Bowman had her second double-double is as many days with her 10 points and 14 rebounds. Junior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) tallied 11 points as well for Sage on Saturday.

Schoff is the program's No. 2 all-time leading scorer with 1,241 points, just 172 points away from the all-time mark of 1,412 points. Holding the record currently is Jocelyn Naple (1994-1998). Schoff moved into the No. 2 spot in career rebounds as she moved ahead of Amie Jefferson (788, 2011-2015) and now has 793 rebounds. She also No. 2 in career blocks at Sage with 110 and has now played in 97 games at Sage, which ranks fourth best.

Parslow has now played in 68 games and is No. 2 with her 138 career three-pointers, while ranking 11th in career scoring with 787 points. Bowman is making her run into the Top 20 in career scoring as she has added 617 points at Sage. She has 479 career rebounds which stands No. 8 all-time, while her 153 career assists is 12th best.

Sage returns to action on Tuesday, January 23 hosting Stevens in the Kahl Gym in an 8 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
