Sage women emerge from road tilt at Stevens victorious, 66-55

Hoboken, NJ- Sage's women's basketball team used a strong second half to mount a huge comeback road win over Stevens on Thursday night. The Gators were down 26-10 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 36-30 at the break but emerged in the fourth quarter to overtake the Ducks, 66-55 for the key Empire 8 victory. Sage is now 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8 riding a five-game win streak. Stevens drops to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8.

Sage's junior Kaitlyn Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) connected for a 17 points in the game, while junior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) added 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Gators on Thursday. Parslow added 12 points in the second half and hit three baskets from down town to lead Sage.

Sage tied the action at 43-43 to end the third quarter and opened the fourth quarter on a layup by senior forward Genevieve Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) to own a brief 45-43 lead. Stevens answered right back with three-pointer from Christina Li to own a brief, 46-45 lead with 6:59 to play. Parlsow and junior guard Macie Holmes Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) added back-to-back three pointers and Sage took a 51-46 lead and never looked back from their at 6:15. The Gators led by as many as 15 points with 1:49 left to play, up 64-49.

For the game, Holmes added 11 points with three baskets from three-point range, while Schoff connected for seven points with three rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Schoff now has 1,191 career points and is about to move into the No. 2 spot in career scoring at Sage. She is right on the heels of Mary Leary's 1,199 career points (1980-1983), while her 762 career rebounds is third at Sage. Schoff is also second in career blocks with 104 having now played in 94 games.

Bowman has 584 career points to go with her 438 career rebounds. She vaulted into the No. 10 spot in rebounding after her effort that included 11 defensive boards against Stevens. She is now in the Top 25 in career blocks (14), while ranking 14th in career assists (145) and 24th in career games played (68). Parslow has now played in 65 career games, which stands 28th best, while ranking fifth in career assists (23) and is now second in career three-pointers with 128. She moved past Carly Vallee (126, 2009-2013) on Thursday night and boasts 738 career points, which is 13th best.

Holmes has added 466 career points with an impressive 101 career three-point baskets. She is now tied for 5th in career three's, while also ranking 24th in 68 games played with 134 career assists (No. 17).

Sage will be in action next on January 16 travelling to Utica College for an 8 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
