Bridget Carney Joins Sage Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's basketball head coach Allison Coleman announced the addition of 2017 graduate St. John Fisher College, Bridget Carney (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) to the Sage's women's basketball coaching staff this season. Carney arrives at Sage competing for two seasons for the Cardinals and leading them to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

After starting her collegiate career at Division II Mansfield University, Carney transferred to St. John Fisher and served a team captain for the Cardinals for two seasons. A starter in 55 games played at SJFC, Carney led the team to the 2014-2015 Empire 8 championship and helped the team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a junior after adding 5.7 ppg with 4.4 rpg. As a senior team captain, she helped the team return to the NCAA's in 2015-2016 after earning an at-large bid. A starter in 27 games, she tallied 8.0 ppg as a senior with 5.1 rpg and closed her career with a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds in the NCAA tournament.

A local stand-out at Averill Park High School, Carney earned All-State honors as a junior and senior from the NYSPHSAA and was a Channel 13 All-Star as a senior. She earned numerous awards during her scholastic career.

She has been active coaching basketball since junior high having served numerous roles with youth leagues and AAU and served as head coach of the Averill Park Raptors for two season. She has also worked numerous camps and sessions, as well working with individual players to assist with player development for more than five years.

A resident of Averill Park, she is the current program coordinator for the Greater Glenville YMCA, supervising the youth and teen departments, while also running youth sports and wellness programs.

The Gators open their 2017-2018 season on November 18 and 19 at the Gwynedd Mercy University Tip-Off Tournament taking on Haverford College in the open round of the tournament. Sage, which went 20-9 last season and won the skyline Conference Championship and earned an NCAA Tournament bid, returns nine letterwinners from last year's team. Now in her fourth season at Sage, Allison Coleman boasts an impressive 59-23 career record in her time at Sage. The Gators will host RPI on November 21 in a non-conference double header in the team's 2017 home opener in Kahl Gym (Albany, NY). Sage will compete this season as the newest member of the Empire 8 Conference and opens league play on January 2 hosting Nazareth College at 8 p.m. in Kahl Gym.
