Sage’s Schoff Named Gator of the Year in Women’s Basketball

ALBANY, NY – The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2016-17 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2016-17 Female and Male Athletes of the Year. Sage's junior Gen Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) was named the Gator of the Year in women's basketball.

Head women's basketball coach Allison Coleman said of Schoff, "Genevieve has been a leader on the floor since she arrived on campus.  Gen has an unmatched desire to make herself and her teammates better while also being able to share the glory and celebrate her teammates accomplishments above her own."

Schoff, the Gators' leading scorer owns a 13.9 ppg average and a 9.3 rpg average in 28 games started. Among the NCAA Division III leaders this season, she boasts 11 double-doubles this season, while leading the team with her 37 blocked shots and an impressive 75.0% free throw percentage. Schoff also scored her 1,000th career point this season and brings 1,025 career points into the NCAA tournament. She stands sixth all-time in scoring at Sage with 1,025 points, just one shy of tying Elizabeth Pearl (1,026 points, 1987-1991).

Tapped as the Skyline Conference Player of the Week once this season, she earned honor roll selections four times this year, while also elevating her resume to include 21 career double-doubles. She has also scored in double digits in 23 of the team's 28 games this past season, while boasting 54 career double-digit performances in her 81 career games played. She has also broken the Gator career free throw record with 306 made buckets, while adding 654 career rebounds, which is third all-time. She boasts 95 career blocked shots (No. 2), while her 152 career assists is 10th. With her 389 points this season, she ranks fourth in the program's single-season record book, while also ranking No. 2 in single-season rebounds (259), No. 2 in free throws made (105), free throws attempted (140), and fifth in blocks (37).

Schoff was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year as a newcomer to the collegiate game two seasons ago and last season earned both Skyline Conference First Team honors and was saluted as the 2015-2016 Skyline Conference Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
