Bowman's strong showing helps Gators extend win streak and beat MSMC, 58-54

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference game at Kahl Gym. Earlier in the year, the Knights won the first meeting 49-34 in the Gators' Skyline opener. On Saturday, the Gators returned the favor with a 58-54 win as Sage extended its win streak six games. Sage improves to 12-5 overall and 8-2 in the league, while MSMC drops to 12-4 overall and also 8-2 in the conference.

Sage led 27-26 at the half and over the course of the third quarter, took 43- 40 lead. The Gators opened the fourth quarter with a layup by sophomore guard Kaitlyn Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) en route to her game-leading 20 points. MSMC benefit from a three-pointer by rookie guard Jordyn Hellap (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) on the next play to pull the Knights within 2, down 45-43 with 9:18 left to play. The two teams exchanged baskets and Sage started to pull away leading by seven points, 52-45 with 6:49 left in the action. Sage was able to hold on and collect the key win behind the efforts of Bowman as she hit 8-13 from the floor with five boards, three assists and two steals.

Junior forward Genevieve Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) added 11 points in the action with four rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot. Schoff moved into the No. 8 spot in career scoring as she surpassed Wendy Kuhn (866, 1988-1992) and now has 873 points, while also ranking No. 5 in career rebounds with 558 rebounds. She is also now No. 2 in career blocks with 79.

Rookie guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) finished with 12 points off the bench after making 4-of-9 shots from three-point range with a pair of blocked shots. Sophomore Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) tallied nine points with four rebounds and three assists.

For MSMC, junior forward Jessica Rini (Seaford, NY/Seaford) added 16 points with five rebounds, two assists and a steal. Sophomore forward Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, NY/St. Mary's) hauled in a game-best 12 boards with seven points and three assists. Junior guard Bridget Kelly (Farmington, CT/Farmington) added eight points off the bench and was a perfect 3-3 from the floor and 2-2 from the line.

Sage is back in action on January 25 hosting Skyline Conference opponent Yeshiva University in a 6 p.m.  match-up in Kahl Gym.
