Gators take Cardinal Classic Championship as Schoff earns MVP honors

Plattsburgh, NY- The Sage College's women's basketball team topped the Cardinals of Plattsburgh State University on Sunday afternoon to win the Cardinal Classic, 57-49. Junior tri-captain Gen Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) earned MVP honors, while senior tri-captain Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) earned All-Tournament Team acclaim. Sage improves to 2-1 on the year, while Plattsburgh State drops to 2-1.

The Gators held the Cardinals to only five fourth quarter points en route to the championship title as Schoff finished with a double-double adding 14 points and 14 rebounds. She connected for three blocked shot with three assists and two steals for the Gators and was rewarded with a selection as the tournament MVP. She added 25 points and 21 rebounds in the tournament.

Pearson also added 14 points on Sunday with five rebounds and three baskets from three-point range, while sophomore Kaitlyn Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) poured in 13 points. Sophomore guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) added eight points as Sage combined for championship title.

Pearson holds the program's career three-point mark and has 142 three's while continuing her climb with 798 career points and stands in ninth all-time at Sage. Schoff has 670 career points and is looking to join the program's Top 15 in the coming games. Schoff has 421 career boards and is looking to move past Sara Tironi (428, 2012-2015) who is currently 11th on the Gator all-time rebounding list.

Sage will face the RPI next on Tuesday, November 22 at 6 p.m. at the EVAC on the RPI campus.
