Gen Schoff selected Gator of the Year in Women's Basketball

Albany, NY— The Sage College’s department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2015-2016 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player. Sage’s women’s basketball team selected sophomore forward Gen Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) as the Gator of the year after her record-setting campaign.

Schoff finished the year with a school-record 132 free throws on the season and was among the national leaders for Division III in women’s basketball. She ranked No. 8 in free throws made, No. 12 in free throws attempted (196), while also ranking No. 52 in offensive rebounds with 4.0 per game. All told, she was ranked 10 different categories over course of the 2015-2016 season.

Head women’s basketball coach Allison Coleman said of Schoff, “Gen is a true leader on and off the floor.” Coleman noted, “She is a leader by example, who always pushes herself and her teammates to become better players and people.  Gen's contributions on the floor this past season were a key ingredient in our team's success.  As only a sophomore, Gen has cemented her place as one of the greatest women's basketball players in the history of the program."

The Sage Colleges’ women’s basketball team wrapped the 2015-2016 season as the Skyline Conference regular-season champions and the Skyline Conference Tournament runner-up after a record setting campaign that saw the Gators go 21-6.

With the release of the final NCAA Division III Statistics for the season, Sage’s program was ranked in the Top 100 nationally in 14 different categories, while five different players were among the individual leaders as well for the 2015-2016 campaign.

After a record setting 21 win season, the Gators finished 46th in win percentage with a 77.6% mark, while standing No. 3 in in three-point field goal percentage defense (22.7%). The team was also No. 22 in in field goal percentage defense (32.6%), while standing No. 33 in rebounds per game average (45.51). Sage was 39th in total rebounds with 1,226 and 43rd in scoring defense (54.4ppg).

Schoff finished the year with a team-leading 419 points, which is the third highest point total for a Gator. She also penned her name into the single-season record book with 149 made free throws on 196 attempts. Schoff, a First Team All-Skyline pick boasts 636 points in just two season at Sage and was honored as a rookie as the 2014-2015 Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year. She was named to the Skyline Conference All-Star First Team this year after the Gators captured the program’s first Skyline Conference regular-season crown after a 15-1 mark in league action this past season. By year’s end, Sage established new standards for most consecutive wins (15), most conference wins (15) and most wins in a season (21), while just missing a bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament after taking home the Skyline Conference runner-up trophy.
