Schoff's career-night leads Gators past Old Westbury, 55-34

Albany, NY— The Sage College's women's basketball team hosted the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury in a  Skyline Conference game in Kahl Gym on Thursday night with both team entering the match-up with an unbeaten mark in league play. Sage posted a 55-34 victory to remain perfect in the league and extend the squad's win streak to nine games as the Gators are 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the Skyline. Old Westbury drops to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the league.

Sage led 26-19 at the break as sophomore forward Gen Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) had 21 first half points after hitting 8-of-13 shots from the floor.  By game's end, she had a career-high 25 points with 3 rebounds and has now scored in double-digits in all but one game this year. She surpassed her previous career-best of 24 points from last February against Yeshiva.

Junior guard Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosic Falls Central) had six first half rebounds, while adding four assists at the half as the Gators forced 11 turnovers by the Panthers. By game's end, Pearson had 16 points with eight rebounds after making four three-point baskets.

OW's junior center Ruth Vargas (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) had 10 points off the bench at the break, while she and junior center Crystal Barnes (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Technical) each had six first half rebounds as the Panthers held a 31-21 edge on the boards in the first half. Vargas was held scoreless in the second half and finished with just 10 points and seven rebounds. Barnes led all players with her 12 boards and had nine defensive rebounds.

Sage returns to action on January 9 travelling to St. Joseph's College (LI) for a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference contest. Old Westbury hosts Mt. St. Mary College in a league contest on January 9 at 2 p.m.
