Sage women fall from Skylines after 69-61 setback

Riverdale, NY—The Sage College's women's basketball team travelled to the College of Mt. St. Vincent for the semifinals of the 2015 Skyline Conference Women's Basketball tournament. A rematch of last year's women's finals, this time the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent were winners as they beat Sage, 69-61. With the win, CSMV will meet top seeded Farmingdale State on Saturday in the finals. CMSV improves to 21-5, while Sage stands at 18-7 on the year.

The Gators must now wait news of a possible ECAC Tournament bid on Monday, while CMSV will be playing for a shot at the Skyline's automatic bid to the NCAA's.

Senior guard Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) paced the team with her 20 points and added three steals. She had 14 second half points and helped the gators pull within four twice in the second half of play. The team's leading scorer and a 2015 Skyline Conference All-Star First Team pick, she now has 355 points this season, while adding 1,068 career points and is the program's No. 3 all-time leading scorer. Already the program's all-time leader in assists, she now has 452, while standing No. 2 in career steals with 256.

Seniors Senior Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central) and Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) each finished with 11 points in the action, while Jefferson, a 2015 Skyline Conference All-Star Second teamer finisher with a double-double with her team-best 10 rebounds. Jefferson, the No. 2 all-time leading rebounder at Sage, now has 782, while standing first in all-time blocked shots with 160. Tironi added five rebounds with two steals and now has d the team on the boards with 12 rebounds and chipped in with nine points.

2014-2015 Skyline Conference Rookie of the year, Gen Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) finished with nine points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Krystyn Knockwood (Troy, NY/Troy) tallied six points with six rebounds and two blocked shots.

The Dolphins got 23 points from Christina Barone as she made a blistering 13-of-18 free throws and added five steals with six assists. Kelly Fraser poured in 19 points with three steals, while Brittany Carroll added 11 points.
