New York, NY –For the second straight year, The Sage College's women's basketball team has produced the Skyline Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year. This year's Skyline Rookie of the Year went to Genevieve Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) as she also earned Second Team honors. Joining her as a 2015 Skyline Conference All-Star on the First Team is senior guard Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac), while senior center Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) earned Second Team honors.
Sage, which is under the direction of rookie head coach Allison Coleman, owns a school record 18-6 record on the season. Sage had a 12-game win streak spanning from January 17- February 19 to establish a new standard for most consecutive wins as well this year after also winning a program-best nine Skyline games.
Schoff has an 8.4 ppg average this season with 24 appearances with 23 starts. She has a 5.8 rpg average with 17 blocked shots. Twice the Gators' high scorer this season with a personal-best 24 points in the victory over yeshiva, Schoff has led the team in rebounding four times this year. She has finished in double-digit scoring seven times and has 202 points on her rookie season. She is
Bowman, a 2014 Skyline Conference First Team honoree and the 2014 Skyline Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player, repeated as a Skyline First Team pick this year. She is the No. 3 all-time leading scorer at Sage with 1,048 career points. She already holds the program's career assists mark with her 451 assists. She is No. 2 on the career steals list with 253. On her final season, the 2015 Jostens Trophy nominee, has a 14.0 ppg average with 3.8 rpg. A 24-game starter, she has 132 assists this year with 70 steals and a 78.0% FT% this season.
She has been the team-high scorer on 10 occasions this year, including a career-high 33 points when the Gators beat SUNY-Old Westbury. She has finished with double-digit scoring outputs 20 times this season, including the last 12 games in a row for Sage. Over the course of the 2014-2015 season, she has drawn acclaim as the Skyline Conference and ECAC Player of the Week once, while garnering six honor roll selections. She is currently No. 5 in the league in scoring, while standing No. 1 in free throw percentage (78.0%, 64-82), No. 9 in field goal percentage (38.5%), No. 2 in assists (5.5 apg), No. 5 in steals (2.92), and No. 6 in assist to turnover ratio (1.1).
Jefferson, a team captain has been a leader for the Gators this season on and off the court. She is averaging 8.4 ppg with a team-high 9.1 rpg average. An All-Tournament Team pick at the Brockport Invitational, she earned one Skyline honor roll selection this season in November. She has been the high scorer three times this season, while leading the Gators in rebounding 15 times. She ranks No. 4 in the league this year in rebounding, while ranking No. 5 in blocked shots per game (1.46) and is No. 2 in field goal percentage (45.2%, 75-166) and No. 7 in free throw percentage (71.8%, 51-71).
On her career, Jefferson has now tied the mark for most games played at 99 (with Chelsea Martin) and has racked up 634 points with 772 career rebounds. She is No. 2 in career rebounds, while owning the career block mark that has grown to 159 as she has tallied 35 blocks this year.
The defending league champions, the Gators earned the No. 3 seed in the 2015 Skyline Conference tournament and will open defense of their 2014 Skyline Championship facing No. 2 seeded College of Mt. St. Vincent in the semifinals on Feb. 26 at CMSV at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to Saturday's championship game at a location and time to be determined as the other semifinal contest between # 1 seeded Farmingdale State and No. 4 seeded Mt. St. Mary College.
