Sage women roll easily to 6th straight win, downing SJC 71-54

 

Albany, NY –The Sage College's women's basketball team hosted the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College (LI) on Saturday afternoon in Kahl Gym in a Skyline Conference contest. Sage triumphed 71-54 to improve to 12-5 overall and 6-2 in the Skyline. SJC drops to 4-16 overall and 2-7 in the league. The Gators have now won six consecutive games.

Sage's senior guard Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) added 15 points with five assists and two blocks to lead the Gators. She was honored before the contest as earlier in the week, she broke Sage's career assist mark and by day's end now has 415 career assists. She is also moving ever closer to achieving her 1,000th career point as she has 944 career points. She is now No. 4 in career scoring as she moved past Karen Harris (940 points, 1977-1979).

Sage's junior Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central) added 13 points, while rookie Gen Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) added 10 points with five rebounds. Senior center Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) hauled down 10 rebounds, including nine defensive boards and added four blocks and five rebounds. Jefferson, who holds the Gator career block record now has 151, while standing No. 2 all-time in rebounding with her 730 boards. She has also racked up 530 career points at Sage.

SJC's sophomore guard Jackie Zizzo (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) added a game-high 20 points and she was 5-14 from three-point range. Rookie forward Andrea Iavarone (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) finished with 10 points off the bench, while junior Katie McGarrell (Centereach, NY/Newfield) hauled in a team-high eight boards and added six points with three assists.

Sage returns to action on February 9 hosting Union College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match-up. The Golden Eagles are back in action on February 12 hosting Yeshiva University in a 7 p.m. contest.
