Jefferson's Double-Double Helps Gators finish with 15th win and a spot in Skyline Tournament

Brooklyn, NY – The Sage College's women's basketball team travelled to NYU-Poly for the final Skyline Conference contest of the regular-season. Sage posted a 68-61 win to sweep the Jays and add to their active victory mark as they are stand at 15-9 on the year and 10-4. NYU-Poly finishes the season at 2-23 overall and 0-15 in the league.

Sage led 33-26 at the break and never looked back to collect the win and secure the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament, the second in the program's history. By game's end, junior center Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) tallied her second straight double-double as she had 18 points and 18 rebounds, tying her career high for points and establishing a new standard for her in career rebounds in a game. Jefferson moved into the No. 5 spot on Sage's career rebounding list as she has 521 and moved past Kelly Murphy (516, 1999-2002). She added two blocks in the action and continues to add to her other career record as she hold the career blocked shots mark with 123 blocks.

Sage's senior Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) added 15 points in the contest with eight rebounds. She moved her career resume to include an active mark for most games played and consecutive starts as she made her 96th start and elevated her totals to 693 points and 523 rebounds, while adding 99 career three-point baskets. She is 10th all-time in career scoring, fourth in career rebounding and tied for third in career three-point baskets.

Junior Lea McClain (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) added 13 points and helped Sage dominate the boards as they out rebounded the Jays 58-34.

For the Jays, Alyssa D'Apice and Tabitha Larsen each finished with 22 points.

Sage returns to action on February 27 travelling to Purchase College for a 5:30 p.m. contest in the Skyline Conference semifinals.  The appearance in the Skyline Tournament is the team's second in program history after first appearing in the tournament in 2010-2011. The 2014 Skyline Conference tournament is a four-team bracket with top seeded Farmingdale State College hosting No. 4 seeded College of Mt. St. Vincent. The Panthers earned the No. 2 seed and host the Gators, which drew the third seed. The two winners will meet on Saturday, March 1 for the Skyline Championship and the league's automatic qualifier to the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship.
