Record setting day for the Gators as they beat Old Westbury, 86-60

Albany, NY – The Sage College's women's basketball squad hosted the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon in the Kahl Gym in a Skyline Conference contest. The host Gators tied the school record for most wins in a season as they posted an 86-60 win over the Panthers.  Sage improves to 13-7 overall and 8-2 in the Skyline Conference, while Old Westbury drops to 5-15 overall and 4-6 in the league.

The win for the Gators tied the school record for wins in a single-season (13) first achieved by the 1979-1980) team. Additionally, senior forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) broke the career record for most games played as she started her 92nd career contest. She has played and started all 92 games as a Gator. Martin connected for 12 points and added eight rebounds with four assists and four steals in her record-setting game.

Sage junior guard Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) racked up 21 points with 12 assists and six steals. She now has 167 career steals (No. 6 at Sage) with 296 assists (No. 3) and is just one shy of tying the No. 2 person, Liz Donk (2008-2011) with 297. Bowman added 19 points in the first half points as the Gators led 43-24 at the break.

Sophomore Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central) added 18 points for the Gators, to tie her career best, while shooting 8-13 from the floor.  Rookie Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) connected for 11 points, while junior center Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) added a game-high 14 rebounds with two blocked shots.

Old Westbury's senior forward DeAndra Scott (St. Albans, NY/Caesar Rodney) added 16 points with seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Olivia Ilardi (Bayside, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) added 13 points, while junior guard Clarissa Gallagher (Brooklyn, NY/Grand Street Campus) racked up 11 points and sophomore center Chloe Mellon (Commack, NY/Commack) added 11 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Sage returns to action on February 12 travelling to Purchase College for a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference game, while Old Westbury hosts St. Joseph's College (LI) at 6 p.m. on February 12.
