Jefferson and Bowman provide one-two punch as Gators beat St. Joe's

Patchogue, NY – The Sage College's Women's Basketball team travelled to St. Joseph's College (LI) for a Skyline Conference contest and came away with a 67-59 win to improve 11-7 overall and 6-2 in the Skyline Conference. The 11 wins in a season are the most for Sage's Head Coach Jackie Craft in her tenure at Sage, while the Gators are in a tie for second place in the league with six league games remaining on the regular-season.

Sage led 32-30 at the break as rookie Krystyn Knockwood (Troy, NY/Troy) added six points, three rebounds and a block shot in the first half. In the second half, Sage junior guard Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) racked up 11 points and by game's end finished with 19 points with six rebounds and four assists. Bowman has now handed out 277 career assists, which ranks. No. 4 all-time, just three shy of moving into the No. 3 spot currently held by Sherri Elmer (279, 1993-96 and 1997-1998).

Junior Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) finished with 12 rebounds, including 11 defensive boards in the contest. Jefferson now has 447 career rebounds, good enough for No. 6 on the career list at Sage.  Rookie guard Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) came off the bench to rack up three field goals from downtown and netted nine points on the day.  

Senior Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) added eight rebounds while also recording her 90th career start. Martin has now started 90 consecutive games in a Sage uniform and is poised to tie the career record on Tuesday when the team hosts MSMC. Martin has 493 career rebounds and ranks and stand at No. 5 on the career list.

The Gators return to action on Tuesday, February 4 hosting Mt. St. Mary College in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference contest in Kahl Gym. The first 50 fans to the contest wearing black in conjunction with Sage's Lights Out Game, will receive a prize.
