Sage women hand MSMC 66-54 loss in Skyline Opener

Newburgh, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team travelled to Mt. St. Mary College for the two teams' Skyline Conference opener. MSMC had beaten the Gators in 12 previous meetings, but tonight was Sage's night as the Gators snapped a 12-game skid to the Knights posting a 66-54 win. Sage improves to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the Knights fall to 0-10 overall and 0-1 in the league.

The Gators held a 25-23 lead at the break and by game's end held a 12-point lead in the 66-54 road win.

Rookie guard Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) led all players with her 17 points as she poured in four three pointers in the action as the Gators combined for nine treys in the action.

Junior guard Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) added 15 points as well with six assists and five rebounds. She now has 217 career assists, moving her into the No. 6 spot all-time at Sage as she passed ahead of Erin Willis (214, 1999-2004) on Tuesday evening.

Sophomore forward Samantha Carswell (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) made her first career start and responded with seven points and a team-best 12 rebounds including 11 defensive boards. Junior guard Lea McClain (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) added 10 points and made 8-of12 from the free throw line to help the Gators down the stretch.

Sage returns to action on January 9 travelling to Bard College for a 7 p.m. contest.
