RSC Softball Team Splits With Alfred on Friday

Alfred, NY –Russell Sage College's softball squad faced top seeded Alfred University on Friday in a key Empire 8 doubleheader. Alfred took the first game, 8-0 in five innings, but the Gator bats came to life as they took the nightcap, 10-2. RSC is now 19-15 overall and 10-4 in the Empire 8, while Alfred University is now 24-12-1 overall and secured the No.1 seed for the upcoming Empire 8 tournament after going 14-2 in conference play.

With RSC's win in the second game, the Gators snapped Alfred's 11-game streak and handed the Saxons only their fourth home loss this season.

Game #1 Alfred 8-0 RSC (5 Innings)

Alfred held the Gators to three hits as they had 11 hits in the game, including two doubles and two home runs.

In the circle for RSC, rookie Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) worked 4.2 innings allowing eight earned runs with two walks as she drops to 10-7.

Game #2 RSC 10-2 Alfred

Graduate player Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) got the Gators on the scoreboard first as she had a solo homerun in the top of the second inning. She also got the complete game win in the circle as she allowed just one earned run off of six hits with a strikeout and a pair of walks. After Friday's game, she is now 9-8 on the year with three home runs and has 15 extra-base hits.

Junior Isabella Vano (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) had two RBI's. RSC's graduate performer and outfielder Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI's. Papas leads the team with her 54 hits including 15 doubles and 33 RBI's.  Senior Lauren Salmonese (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored as well, while sophomore Madalyn Ring (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) was 3-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.

RSC returns to action travelling to Medaille University to wrap the 2023 Empire 8 conference slate for noon on May 6.
