RSC and Union Split action in softball Tuesday

Schenectady, NY –Russell Sage College's softball squad travelled to nearby Union College for a non-conference match-up. Union won the first game, 6-5, while the Gators took the nightcap, 8-5. RSC is now 16-14 on the year.

Game #1 Union 6-5 RSC

The two teams battled it out after RSC came from behind to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh with four runs. Union collected the walk-off win with just one out in the bottom of the inning as back to back singles from Union's Riley Callahan and Karson Saunders and an RBI sacrifice fly by Ellie Wintringe gave Union the 6-5 win.

RSC's offense got RBI's from senior Lauren Salmonese (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie), junior Amelia Wasilko (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketchum), and junior Isabella Vano (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown), while graduate player Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) scored two runs.

In the circle for RSC, rookie Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) suffered the loss after she gave u six earned runs off of 11 hits with a pair of walks. She moves to 8-6 this season.

Game #2 RSC 8-5 Union  

In a game that saw four lead changes, RSC took the lead for good after they scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Papas was 4-for-4 with four runs scored, a double and a triple to pace the offense that combined for 12 hots.

Senior Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) went 3-for-4with an RBI and a run scored, while graduate performer Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) added a pair of RBI's and scored a run. Sophomore catcher Serina Garmendiz (Hempstead, NC/Pine Bush) drove in two runs as well.

In the circle, Dicranian picked up the complete game win after striking out two and allowing four earned runs and improves to 8-8 this season.

Dicranian now has 47 career doubles, just one shy of tying the record set by Kiersten Duncan with 48. As a Gator pitcher, she now has 35 complete games, which ranks sixth all-time at RSC. She continues to add to career resume as she has now played in 123 games on her career with 370 at bats (No. 10), 136 hits (No. 8), 47 doubles (No. 2), 75 runs scored (No. 10), and 78 RBI's (No. 10). She also continues to add to her active career record having worked in 401.1 innings, while earning 32 wins (No. 2), has 35 complete games (No. 6), 88 strikeouts (No. 15), and 87 career appearances (No. 1).

Papas now has 140 career hits and is eighth in the Gator career record book, while having played in 89 games. Her 289 career at-bats ranks 22nd, while her 37 career doubles is sixth and she has also moved into the No. 2 for the most career triples with 11. She has also driven in 69 RBI's (No. 15), while scoring 98 runs (No. 6) and has been successful on 19-of-21 stolen base attempts and ranks 12th.

RSC returns to action on April 29 travelling to Houghton University for an Empire 8 doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
