Softball Takes Two from Keuka as Gators excel at plate and in the circle

Keuka, NY –Russell Sage College's softball team took two games from Keuka College on Saturday in Empire 8 action, 12-6 and 12-0 in a five inning contest. The sweep extends the team's win streak to three games as RSC is now 9-11 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8.

Graduate performer Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) was impressive at the plate and in the circle for the Gators.  She picked up the complete game win after allowing five earned runs off 10 hits with a pair of strikeouts. She also connected for another double at the plate.

Sophomore Emma Anderson (Tolland, CT/Tolland) was 3 for 3 at the plate with a pair of RBI's and two runs scored to pace the Gator offense. Rookie Amber Banas (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) had an RBI to go with her 2 for 4 effort at the plate with two runs scored as well.

Sophomore catcher Serina Garmendiz (Hempstead, NC/Pine Bush) also added a double and a stolen base for the Gators, while senior Lauren Salmonese (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) had a pair of stolen bases.

In the circle for RSC, rookie Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) earned her first career shutout as she tossed a one-hit gem. She worked five innings and struck out two, while walking one in the contest. She improves to 5-4 for the Gators.

RSC's bats were active as they combined for 15 hits in the nightcap and added four doubles and a triple.

Rookie Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) connected for a double and was 2 for 3 with three RBI's to pace the Gators. Not to be left out, rookie Amber Banas (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) had a triple for the Gators.

Graduate player Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) was 2 for 4 with a doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, while Dicranian also doubled in the game. Junior Amelia Wasilko (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketchum) added a double and was 1 for 2 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.  

Two of the Gators continue to make their mark on the program's career record book. Graduate performers Taylor Dicranian and Arianna Papas are on a tear for RSC.

Dicranian continues to add to her record book rewriting as she has now made 82 appearances in the circle which is an active career high-water mark. She has 28 career wins which stands No. 2, while her 78 career strikeouts is ranked 16th. Her 371.1 innings pitched finds her third in the career list as well. Her accomplishments are not limited to her work as a Gator pitcher. At the plate, her 44 career doubles is now tied for No. 2. Her 128 career hits stands ninth, while her 113 games played is 20th.

Papas, who was just named a NFCA Regional Player to Watch for Division III, now has 124 career hits and is  ninth. She is also 10th with her 32 career doubles, while her nine triples is tied for fourth and her 10 career home runs is ninth and her 66 RBI's is 15th at RSC.

RSC returns to action on April 13 travelling to MCLA for a non-conference double header with the Trailblazers at 3 p.m. Thursday.
