RPI softball team takes two from Gators

Troy, NY –Russell Sage College's softball team travelled to nearby RPI for a non-conference match-up with the Engineers. RPI took both ends of the doubleheader, 8-1, 8-2.  RPI improves to 10-4, while RSC is now 6-8.

Game #1 RPI 8-1 RSC

Senior infielder Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) drove in the Gators' lone run and was 1-for-2 at the plate.

In the circle for RSC, rookie Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) worked six innings allowing seven earned runs off of 11 hits, walking two and striking out another pair. She drops to 4-3 on the season.

Game #2  RPI 8-2 RSC

Graduate player Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) drove in the team's two runs in the action, adding a double and was 2-for-4 at the plate. She now has 29 career doubles to go with her 117 career hits. Papas continues her climb in the program record book as she is now 11th in both career hits and doubles, while her 60 career RBI's is tied for 18th.

Rookie Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) was 2-for-2, while senior Lauren Salmonese (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) also had a double and a sacrifice hit in the contest.

Graduate performer Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) worked six innings in the circle but took the loss after allowing five earned runs off of 11 hits with a walk and a strikeout. She is now 2-5 on the year and has also worked in 344.2 innings at RSC and worked in 77 games in the circle.  She is currently No. 2 in appearances behind 79 by Katie Kovage, while ranking third in innings pitched behind Paula Weeden (381 IP).

RSC returns to action on April 5 travelling to Skidmore College for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
