Gators Finish Florida Trip on a High Note

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. –  Russell Sage College wrapped up its Florida trip by defeating Concordia University Chicago 5-3 this morning.

Outfielder Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill), a graduate student, the reigning Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year, and pitcher/infielder Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union), a graduate student, keyed the victory.

Dicranian went 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored, while Papas, who was selected the E8 Player of the Week on Monday, homered and drove in a pair.

Sophomore pitcher/infielder Emma Anderson (Tolland, CT/Tolland) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while freshman pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) allowed just six hits during the complete game win.

Senior designated player Becky Pieroni and senior outfielder Nikita Robbins each had two hits to lead Concordia-Chicago (2-5).

RSC (5-5) began the day by falling 5-1 to Monmouth

Dicranian tripled and scored the lone Gator marker on a sac fly by freshman infielder Amber Banas (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties).

Papas went 2-for-2 and reached base safely in all three of her plate appearances in the opener.

Sophomore shortstop Kendall Lewis went 2-for-3 with a homer and double to pace the Fighting Scots (4-5).

Looking ahead, the Gators are scheduled to return to the diamond with a doubleheader at RPI on Saturday, March 18.

Anthony Union), a graduate student, and senior infielder Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) headlined the group of returning Gators…The trio each earned All-E8 honors last spring…Papas and Dicranian both have garnered NFCA All-Region accolades for the past two seasons…Sophomore catcher Serina Garmendiz (Hempstead, NC/Pine Bush), Papas, and Rice were voted co-captains...Dicranian slashed .583/.917/.643 this week...She registered four RBI, two doubles and four runs scored across the four games...Papas batted .500 with four runs scored, three doubles, a home run and four RBI during the same stretch...She slugged .929 and reached base at a .533 rate.
