
UTICA, N.Y. – Russell Sage College split this afternoon's Empire 8 Conference doubleheader at Utica. The Gators won the opener 2-1 and fell 12-7 in the second game.
Senior outfielder Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) hit a two-run homer in the fifth to account for both RSC runs in the road triumph. She went 3-for-3 in the opener and 5-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored on the day.
Senior left hander/infielder Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) made the blast stand up, allowing just two hits in the complete game victory.
After RSC snapped its four-game winning streak in the opener, Utica (11-15/4-4 E8) launched four home runs in the nightcap.
Freshman catcher/infielder Abigail Sacks (Colonie, NY/Colonie), who had one of the dingers, went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI to lead the Pioneers.
RSC had five players register multiple hits in the setback. Papas and Dicranian, both NFCA All-Region picks last spring, and junior shortstop Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) paced the group. Rice (above) was 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Dicranian went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
The Gators (9-15/2-3 E8) are slated to play next on Thursday at Castleton. The non-conference doubleheader is set for 3:00 PM.
Notes: Papas slashed .556/1.000/.609 across six games this week...She recorded seven runs scored, six RBI and five doubles as RSC went 3-3.
