Softball battles Elmira and the weather

Elmira, NY – Russell Sage College's softball team traveled to Elmira College for a scheduled Empire 8 doubleheader. After a delayed start to weather for the games, the first game only went five innings before being halted to weather as the Soaring Eagles held a 6-0 lead. The second game of the doubleheader will be rescheduled for a new date yet to be determined.

RSC is now 6-12 overall and 1-2 in the league, while Elmira is now 6-7 overall and also 1-2 in the Empire 8.

For the Gators, senior outfielder Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) was 1-for-3 with a triple, while junior Makayla Lindsey (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) was 2-2 at the plate. Senior Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) drew a pair of walks for the Gators.

Lindsey worked 4.1 innings, yielding two earned runs off five hits with three walks as she drops to 1-4. Dicranian worked 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs or hits in the action before the game was halted due to the weather.

Sage's Papas now has seven career triples, which is tied 10th all-time on the career list, while Dicranian has now in 57 games in the circle, which ranks eighth best.

Elmira's Mary Ann Sobel (2-2) earned the victory as she worked five scoreless innings allowing four hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.

Looking ahead, the Gators' schedule has been altered. Sunday's scheduled home games with Keuka College have been postponed and rescheduled for April 29.  The next games for Sage finds the Gators travelling to Union College for a non-conference doubleheader on April 12 at 3:30 p.m.
