Gators Sweep Twin-Bill at SUNY Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Russell Sage College swept this afternoon's doubleheader at SUNY Cobleskill. The Gators won the opener 8-5 and the nightcap 11-3 (five innings).

Senior outfielder Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) went 5-for-8 with two runs scored, five RBI, a double and a triple to help the Gators sweep the non-conference twin-bill. Junior infielder Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) went 4-for-7 with four runs scored and three RBI, while junior right-hander/infielder Makayla Lindsey (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) tossed a complete game in the opener and was 3-for-6 with three runs scored at the plate.

In the opener, RSC used a four-run fourth inning to get out to a 6-0 lead. Papas and senior left hander/infielder Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) each knocked in a pair with a single to highlight the rally. Trailing 8-2, SUNY Cobleskill made things interesting, scoring three runs in the sixth.

The Gators, down 2-1, broke the second game open with five runs in the fourth inning. RSC added five more runs in the fifth to end things early. Papas was 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Lindsey (above) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Sophomore infielder Alexis Miranda went 4-for-6 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI to pace the Fighting Tigers (2-12).

The Gators (6-11) are slated to play next on Saturday vs. Elmira. The Empire 8 Conference doubleheader is set to begin at 5:00 PM.


Notes: Infielder Emily Agate (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey), a grad student, was named the E8 Player of the Week on Monday. She went 7-for-8 with 7 RBI in Saturday's doubleheader vs. Houghton.
