Gators drops pair to Skidmore

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Russell Sage College travelled to Skidmore College on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference twinbill with the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore took both games, 8-0 and 6-3.  The Gators moves to 3-10, while Skidmore is now 9-3.

Skidmore used a balanced attack that featured three solo home runs to collect the 8-0 win if the first game. For the Gators, senior outfielder Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) was also 2-for-3 with a double, while junior Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) was 1 for 2 at the plate.

Junior pitcher Makayla Lindsey (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) worked three innings for the Gators, allowing four earned runs off five hits with a pair of walks. She moves to 0-3 on the year in the circle. Senior Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) worked two innings, allowing no earned runs off six hits in relief.

Skidmore's Lindsey Raimondi (3-1) got the win as she scattered three hits in six innings of work with four strikeouts.

In the nightcap, sophomore Alyson Murphy (Gill, MA/Turners Falls) had an RBI sacrifice fly to drive in the team's first run in the top of the first as the Gators jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Skidmore tied the action in the bottom of the inning and took a 6-2 lead after adding four runs in the bottom of the second inning to break the 2-2 tie.

For the game, Papas was 2 for 4 with a run scored, while Dicranian collected her team-leading seventh double and was 1 for 4 with a run scored. Rookie Serina Garmendiz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) also had a double.

Rookie pitcher Kadence Schluter (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) worked one and two thirds inning in making the start, allowing two earned runs off five hits with a walk and a strikeout. Dicranian came in the game in relief and threw 4.1 innings with no hits and no runs allowed. Schulter took the loss and is now 0-6.

Skidmore's Hannah Davis collected the win as she is now 5-1 having allowed just one earned run off eight hits with six strikeouts. She had a big game at the plate as she was also 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a pair of home runs.

Looking ahead, RSC is scheduled to play on March 29 at SUNY-Cobleskill in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch of is set for 3:00 PM.

Notes: The Gators have 12 returnees to this year's roster…Senior left hander/infielder Taylor Dicranian and senior outfielder Arianna Papas headline the dozen…The duo each earned All-Region honors from the NFCA last spring…Dicranian continues her climb in the Gator career record book as she is now eighth in career appearances (53), 20th in career strikeouts (55), while also 12th in innings pitched (218).  Offensively, she is now 10th with her 26 career doubles…Head Coach Erica Li, now in her fourth season, added seven newcomers to the squad.
