RSC Begins Season with a Victory

CLERMONT, Fla. – Russell Sage College began its season by splitting a pair of contests at THE Spring Games.

The Gators began the day by defeating Regis 12-1 in five innings. RSC capitalized upon a half dozen Pride errors and used a ten-run third to start its season on a high note.

Four players, infielder Emily Agate (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey), a grad student, senior left hander Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union), sophomore designated player Aly Murphy (Gill, MA/Turners Falls) (above), and senior outfielder Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill), each recorded two hits in the win. Papas and Dicranian, both NFCA All-Region picks last season, combined for four runs scored and five RBI.

Freshman infielder Lexi Nichols homered in the third for the lone Regis (1-7) run.

In the nightcap, Mount Union got out to a 4-0 lead en route to a 5-2 victory. Junior outfielder Grace Heath went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to pace the Raiders (2-2).

Junior outfielder Lauren Salmonese (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Papas and freshman right-hander Kadence Schluter (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) lofted sacrifice flies for the Gator runs.

On the day, Papas finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Dicranian was 3-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBI. Salmonese went 3-for-5 in the split.

Looking ahead, RSC (1-1) is supposed to play two on Saturday. The Gators are slated to face Penn State-Behrend at 11:00 AM and Penn State-Berks at 1:15 PM.

Notes: The Gators have 12 returnees and seven newcomers on this year's roster...RSC went 17-6 and earned the two seed in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament last spring.
