Duncan breaks Sages' Career Doubles Mark as Gators Split with Union

SAGE AND UNION SPLIT IN SOFTBALL ON WEDNESDAY; RECORD SETTING DAY FOR SAGE'S DUNCAN

Troy, NY— Sage's softball team hosted the Dutchwomen of Union College on Wednesday afternoon at Robison Field in a non-conference double header. Union took the first game, 6-5 in eight innings, but the Gators took the nightcap, 11-3 in six innings. Sage is now 8-12 overall, while Union stands at 3-8.

Sage's senior co-captain Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) collected three doubles in the action on Wednesday and in the process, proceeded to break Sage's career doubles mark as well. She broke the record set by Hillary Faas with 44 doubles and now stands atop of the career list with 45 doubles.

Game #1 Union 6-5 Sage (8 Innings)

In a see-saw battle, Union collected the win after Sage's seventh inning rally tied the action at 5-5. In the top of the 8th inning playing the game with the international tie-breaker, Union's rookie Lindsey Podlaski Niskayuna, NY/Colonie Central) had the game-winning hit with an RBI single to left field to drive in the winning run.

For the game, Union's Podlaski was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's and had a double. Senior Kim Puzo (East Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI as well. Sophomore Makayla Koehler (Brewster, NY/Brewster) was 3 for 4 with an RBI to lead Union in the action.

Sophomore pitcher Catie Raeter (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro South) had a complete game win as she allowed nine hits with 5 earned runs with a walk and a strikeout as she improves to 3-1.

For the Gators, Sage combined for four doubles in the action as Duncan, rookie Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) and senior Lindsey Decker (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) all had extra-base hits.  Duncan and junior Destiny Wierzbicki (Albany, NY/Troy) each had two hits in the action, while Duncan drove in a pair.

In the circle, Dicranian worked 6.1 innings for the Gators with 4 earned runs off 7 hits. Sage's sophomore pitcher Katerina Lagace (Newington, CT/Newington) took the loss with 1.2 innings in relief with one earned run off four hits as she drops to 3-6.

Game #2 Sage 11-3 Union (6 Innings)

Sage's graduate player, outfielder Lisa Kentris (Latham, NY/Shaker) added her first home run as a Gator in her first at bat in the bottom of the first inning to spot Sage to a 1-0 lead. Union answered back with three runs in the top of the second before sophomore Emily Agate (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) belted a three run home run to give Sage a 4-3 lead.  Sage broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth after they scored five runs and won the game.

Agate led the Gators with her 4 RBI and was 2/3 with a run scored, while Decker was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Wierzbicki was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored as the Gators exploded for 16 hits.

In the circle, junior Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) made the start and worded 1.0 innings with 1 earned run off 5 hits and a strikeout. Lagace came in earned the win in relief after allowing no runs in 5 innings of work with 3 strikeouts and is now 3-6.

Union's sophomore pitcher Koehler worked 4.1 innings with 11 hits and only 2 earned runs with a pair of strikeouts and 1 walk. Senior Dana Dolinko (Wilmette, IL/New Tier Township) worked 1.1 innings with four earned runs off five hits and took the loss, dropping to 0-3.
