Quackenbush joins Sage softball coaching staff

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges Department of Athletics announced the addition of Rachel Quackenbush (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) to serve as assistant softball coach this season with her former mentor, Jamie Trudeau.  

Head coach Trudeau said of Quackenbush's selection, "We are very excited to welcome Rachel Quackenbush to our coaching staff."  She added, "Her knowledge of the circle and passion for the game will be a great addition to the team.  Our pitching staff and team will have a driven coach who exhibits competitive excellence."

A 2016 graduate of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Quackenbush excelled in the classroom and on the softball field as a Trailblazer for Trudeau. As a senior, she was voted to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) First Team, capping her fourth career selection for the honor. She graduates holding MCLA's all-time career strikeout record with 678, while also ranking in a tie for most wins with 36. As a senior, she led the conference in strikeouts (148) and was second in ERA (2.09).  Quackenbush is the all-time strikeout king at MCLA and is the only repeat selection among the trio of players.  She is the program's single-season strikeout leader as well as holding the top yearly efforts every single season she played. She added a personal-best 198 strikeouts in 2014 as well as 179 as a junior.

As a student at MCLA, she majoring in psychology and earned a minor in social work and was a Dean's List student. A year ago, she served as a volunteer assistant softball coach for her alma mater and was part of the 2015 team that won the MASCAC Championship and earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Trudeau added, "Having watched her grow into a driven player, who exhibited competitive excellence, to become a great teacher of the game, it will be exciting to see her take that passion and experience to our team here at The Sage Colleges."
