Alexa Silk Named CoSIDA Academic All-District for the Second Year in a Row

CoSIDA Academic All-District Team Release

ALBANY – Sage junior Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) was named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Softball Team for the second consecutive year on Thursday afternoon.

Candidates eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the nominated position. Student-athletes has to have completed one full calendar year at her institution and reached sophomore status in athletic eligibility.

With her first-team selection, Silk is now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams.

The Academic All-District teams include the student-athletes divided into eight geographical districts across the United States and Canada. The is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

Silk has had one of the strongest seasons in program history. This season, the second baseman currently has 55 hits, 44 runs, 26 RBI's, 12 doubles, six home runs, one triple and a school record 35 stolen bases with a .440 average. Silk leads the Skyline and ranks 16th in stolen bases/game (0.89) while her 1.19 runs/game are 31st nationally and 2nd in the conference. The nursing major also finds herself in the top three in the Skyline for hits, home runs/game, home runs, slugging percentage (.696) and total bases (92).

Silk has already etched in name in the single-season record book seven times while ranking 2nd in stolen bases (50), 3rd in home runs (16), 3rd in runs (113), 5th in hits (146) and 6th in doubles (32).

The Freehold, NY native currently holds a 3.83 GPA and is a member of the Athenian honor society. Silk has landed herself multiple academic honors including 2016 CoSIDA All-District along with multiple Dean's List, Skyline Scholar-Athlete and Sage Scholar-Athlete honors.
