NEW YORK – Freshman catcher Samantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) was tapped as the Week 2 Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week.
Montague went for a total 6-10 with six runs, four RBI's, two doubles and one home run in Sage's 3-1 week. The freshman's strongest game came in a 17-0 win at Yeshiva in which she went 3-3 while scoring four runs with four RBI's and her first collegiate home run. Montague also went 2-3 with one run in a critical 5-2 win against the Rams of Farmingdale State.
Sage (4-10, 3-1 Skyline) also took two spots on the weekly honor roll. Allison Ford (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) went 3-1 in the circle with 11 strikeouts and two shutouts against Yeshiva. Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Glenville) hit .545 with six hits, six runs, three RBI's, one double and four walks.
The Gators are currently in third in the Skyline with Mount Saint Mary and St. Joseph's – Long Island tied for first with a 2-0 record each.
The Gators are set for their home opener against St. Joseph's – Long Island at 1:00 double header. Sage softball is going to be raising funds and awareness for pediatric cancer throughout the day.
